One of the dreadful illnesses in birds is Avian Flu. Out of the several serious subtypes of this flu, H5N1 virus is zoonotic and transmittable to humans. It is fatal to both humans and birds. H5N1 was found primarily in chickens and farm birds but other birds get easily infected too. At some extent, household birds don’t get affected until and unless they are allowed to be in contact with other wild birds. This may be caused due to too much of outdoor activities of the household birds. To protect them from H5N1, don’t allow them to go outside in wilderness. There are many such diseases which are fatal to your birds. Hence, it is necessary to take proper care of your birds and their surroundings in order to protect them from these deadly diseases. So as to fulfill these requirements, you need to learn identifying illness in your pet birds. One of the main symptoms of your bird’s illness is abnormal droppings. Look out for droppings which are yellow, brownish or somewhat black. These are indicators of internal bleeding which can cause serious problems. Moreover, also see to the consistency of your pet’s droppings. Weight loss is also one of the major symptoms. If your birds sit with fluffed feathers for longer period of time, it conceals its weight loss. It may lose appetite and stop eating which results into weight loss. Your bird’s cere is one of its major body parts which can give you indication of serious illness. If you see any discharge or redness to it, immediately take your birds to the Vet. Veterinarians can treat your birds well and cure their diseases.
Another critical cause of bird falling sick is the viral, cold or bacterial infections from humans around them. To avoid this dilemma, wash your hands clean before and after handling your birds. This will help protect health of both you and your birds. Never handle them or touch them if you are sick. Ask your other family members to do so. Maintain proper hygiene and health awareness for you as well as your birds.
